Gongs are good for three things: letting someone know when they’ve lost in a talent show, announcing the arrival of a Japanese king, and targets. We don’t know squat about assessing talent or monarchical protocol – but we sure as heck know a high quality target when we see one!

This 8” gong by Birchwood Casey of Texas is made out of AR500. It’s a super strong alloy that’s fortified with a high carbon content, with innate resistance to impact, abrasion, and other types of damage. You can do the most violent stuff you could imagine to this gong and still expect it to last forever.

This gong is 3/8” thick, so it’s sturdy enough to hold up to a barrage of gunfire but still able to register the “PING” that makes shooting steel so satisfying a pastime. It’s compatible with handgun and rifle cartridges alike, and with its highly visible 3” orange center target area it’s easy to draw a bead on. This gong has double holes, making it compatible with stands that have two chains.

Important safety note: The manufacturer recommends maintaining at least 30 feet between you and this target when shooting.
