This 5.56x45 XM193 cartridge by Federal is exactly like the standard one issued for field use with the M16A1 rifle. (The “X” prefix simply denotes it’s not mil-spec, but the reason for it being so is so trivial that you can disregard it.) This round is produced for Federal by the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, the United States government-owned facility which makes over one billion rounds per year and is the largest manufacturer of small arms ammo for the U.S. Armed Forces.

As an XM193, this round has a 55 grain projectile with a full metal jacket. Its ballistic coefficient is measurably improved by its precision angled boat tail, so you can expect greater accuracy further downrange. Although American Eagle ammo is cost-effective, Federal makes it that way by exploiting great output capacity and tried and true loading practices, not cutting corners. As such you can bet the farm on this round’s expertly tapered brass cartridge, consistently loaded propellant charge, and sensitive primer.
