This round’s massive 208 grain bullet is only able to achieve a subsonic muzzle velocity. It’s not just quiet; it’s also extremely accurate, because the bullet is truly incapable of starting to wobble as a result of transitioning from supersonic to subsonic velocity.

The A-MAX may superficially resemble a hunting bullet, but it’s in fact not able to expand as it penetrates soft tissue. Instead, the A-MAX is all about following the most consistent trajectory possible. It does so thanks to its polymer tip, boat tail and secant ogive profile – all features which minimize drag so as to help the bullet conserve as much velocity as possible. The A-MAX also wears Hornady’s proprietary AMP jacket, which increases stability thanks to its virtually zero wall thickness variation.
