This 40 grain load’s 1,050 fps muzzle velocity isn’t strangely slow. It was just recorded with a 2” test barrel instead of a more conventional 24” one. That’s no fluke, because the bullet is designed to expand reliably and penetrate to the depth necessary to stop a threat even if it is fired from a barrel as short as 2”.

The bullet is a little monster: a Speer Gold Dot, which possesses a fully bonded jacket that doesn’t detach from its lead core under force. The case seating the bullet is also plated, albeit with nickel rather than copper. This helps the case slip in and out of a chamber with greater ease, regardless of whether the chamber happens to belong to a semi-auto pistol, revolver or rifle!
