A chunky 200 grain bullet can’t accelerate fast enough to break the sound barrier. As such this cartridge generates normal chamber pressure, but can’t create a jarring cracking report on ignition. A suppressor will love having an easier job to do, although any rifle will fire more quietly when it’s fed with subsonic ammo like this.

This cartridge’s reloadable brass case seats an open tip style projectile. Contrary to what its name suggests, an open tip is not a hollow point. It will penetrate soft tissue just like an FMJ, which is to say that the open tip can’t expand. Instead of hunting or self-defense, the open tip provides the performance you want for precision shooting. Its uniformly distributed lead core and concentric jacket are both balanced, and its jacketed base resists deformation while simultaneously reducing lead fouling. A subsonic bullet also avoids getting thrown off trajectory by transonic destabilization!
