A lot of newer shooters are concerned that “M855” is code for “doesn’t work in AR-15.” That couldn’t be further from the truth! This is the same kind of ammo the U.S. Army issues for use in the M4 carbine, and you’ll find it worthy of any kind of target shooting you could wish to accomplish.

This ammo features 62 grain penetrator bullets. On the outside they’re standard FMJs, with concentric gilding metal jackets that harden the bullet for smoother feeding and keep the lead in its core from contacting the bore. Since they’re slightly heavier than usual these bullets achieve a muzzle velocity of 3,060 fps, but their greater mass means they retain more of that velocity as well as resist wind drift downrange.

These bullets have a little trick up their sleeves. The front halves of their cores are made of pure steel. This quite naturally makes them magnetic, but it also gives them a huge advantage when it comes to penetrating media such as sheet metal and soft tissue.

This ammo is good for handloaders: Boxer primed, with new brass cases. Pay the cases’ discoloration no mind, they only look that way because they weren’t polished up after being heat-treated for greater durability.
