With its 138 grain segmented hollow point projectile, this 9mm cartridge from Federal’s Syntech Defense line of ammunition takes devastating terminal performance to a whole new level. Rather than relying on expansion to transfer its energy over a wide area within its target, this bullet splits into four separate sections shortly after penetrating its target: its core, which tunnels up to 18 inches in bare ballistic gel, and three segments that split off to create their own six inch or deeper wound cavities. The bullet further showcases Federal’s state of the industry Syntech jacket. It generates measurably less friction as it travels down the barrel, preserving the bore’s riflings, and because it is made of polymer it leaves behind substantially less residue than a copper jacket could have.
