This cartridge is loaded with a lightweight 300 grain projectile, which supplies a relatively speedy 1,900 fps muzzle velocity without going above standard chamber pressure (0.185 G1 BC). The hollow point flat nose is essentially the same type of bullet as a semi-jacketed hollow point. It has a copper jacket to promote cleaner performance and deeper penetration, although that jacket does not extend all the way to the rim of the bullet’s flat nose. The HPFN’s partial jacket is less restrictive, which enables the nose cavity to function correctly during lower-velocity impact. The bullet’s nose profile ensures safe storage within a lever gun’s tubular magazine.
