This 9mm cartridge’s XTP doesn’t have a uniformly thick plated jacket. Its jacket is drawn, which is why it is thicker toward its base and narrower around its tip. Its progressively tapered jacket serves the same purpose as the XTP’s symmetrically serrated rim: fuller expansion at lower velocities. The XTP’s jacketed rim feeds with all due reliability, and also avoids damage on impact that could have hindered subsequent expansion. And because Hornady gives the XTP a swaged lead core and impressively concentric copper jacket, the bullet achieves all the rotational stability it needs in order to keep its nose cavity trained squarely on the target.
