Sterling ammunition is made in Çankırı, Turkey. We don’t know what the little hook under the “C” means, or how to pronounce “i” when it doesn’t have a dot above it. But what we do know is this: if you’re trying to spend as little as possible on your next batch of 7.62x39 ammo – without sacrificing reliable performance – then Sterling will prove to be right up your alley.

This ammunition utilizes economical steel in place of costlier brass and copper in two big ways. Its cases are made of steel. They aren’t reloadable, and they are inclined to allow more fouling into the action, but you can’t beat a steel-cased round’s price tag. Its 123 grain full metal jacket bullets have lead cores, but their bimetal jackets are nearly entirely made of steel. Only the thinnest layer of copper wash covers a bimetal jacketed FMJ’s exterior.

This isn’t indeterminably old military surplus from unspecified origins. It’s newly manufactured for the commercial market by a company that exports to dozens of countries across the globe. Noncorrosive, and certain to attract a magnet!
