This probably goes without saying, but the 44 Magnum is powerful. So long as you can handle the revolver’s heft and recoil, you can easily subdue the threat in one shot.

The round’s 180 grain projectile is lighter than normal, so you can expect a flat trajectory that carries nearly 1,100 ft lbs of kinetic energy to 25 yards (for context, the minimum recommended energy for deer is 1,000 ft lbs; for self-defense, ~260 ft lbs).

As a jacketed hollow point, the bullet possess two important features: a strong gilding metal jacket that promotes deep penetration, and a lead nose cavity that supplies broad terminal expansion. The JHP’s flat nose profile and unjacketed rim both make this ammo optimal for lever-action rifles as well.
