The 10mm Auto is not a handgun to be taken lightly. And we don’t just mean that it is heavy. It is also intensely powerful, but it only becomes an even more formidable tool for personal protection once it is loaded with the right kind of ammunition.

This cartridge utilizes a 180 grain jacketed hollow point. If you’d only like to use the JHP for target shooting, then its 1,165 fps muzzle velocity out of a 6” barrel should treat you to relatively light recoil. Its jacket is also made of brass, so it is unable to attract a magnet. But if you do fire the JHP for personal protection, then you can count on it to strike a close-range target with over 500 ft lbs of kinetic energy. That’s about double the minimum advised for defensive shooting, and half the minimum recommended for deer hunting. The JHP’s nose cavity is surrounded by a notched jacket, so it reliably fans outward during penetration to inflict a staggeringly wide wound channel.
